Usually Carley Fortune books are either hits or misses for me, so I always go in with lowered expectations. Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t a favorite. I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it. It was still an enjoyable read overall—I finished it quickly and there were moments I liked—but I kept wishing there was more.

The main character especially didn’t fully work for me. I had a hard time connecting with her and wished we saw more growth beyond the constant references to Little Women. After a while, it started to feel repetitive instead of adding depth to her personality.

The romance also didn’t completely land for me. I wanted more emotional tension and chemistry because I never fully felt invested in the relationship. It had potential, but I kept waiting for that stronger connection to click and it just never really did.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad read by any means—just one that left me wanting a little more emotionally from both the characters and the romance.
