I went into this book expecting a romantasy, but unfortunately it didn't deliver that experience for me. The romance was minimal, and the story felt much more like a high-stakes fantasy focused on world-building and political intrigue than a romance-driven fantasy.
While I can appreciate the amount of detail that went into creating the world, the pacing was simply too slow for my taste. I found myself struggling to stay engaged, and there were several points where I felt bored rather than invested in what was happening. The plot takes its time building the story, which will likely work well for readers who enjoy slower, immersive fantasy reads, but it wasn't what I was looking for.
I didn't hate this book by any means, and I can see why other readers may enjoy it. However, the marketing left me expecting a stronger romantic element, and the slow pacing made it difficult for me to fully connect with the story. In the end, this one just wasn't for me, but fans of slow-burn, world-building-heavy fantasy may have a much better experience.
