I always gravitate toward cozy fantasy, so I went into this one hoping for a warm, comforting escape—and while it didn’t fully hit that mark for me, I still had a decent time with it.

Overall, I’d call this an “okay” read. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. The biggest thing that held me back was how heavily it leaned into political and religious themes. Those elements were more prominent than I expected, and they sometimes took away from the soft, cozy atmosphere I usually look for in this genre.

That said, it wasn’t without its charms. I still enjoyed the world and found it easy enough to keep turning the pages. The highlight for me was definitely the romance subplot—it added a nice emotional layer and gave me something to stay invested in, especially when the heavier themes started to take center stage.

In the end, it didn’t quite deliver the fully cozy vibe I was hoping for, but it was still an enjoyable read in parts. If you don’t mind a bit more depth and seriousness mixed into your cozy fantasy, this might work better for you than it did for me.
