As someone who’s read and loved this author’s previous books, I came into this one with high expectations — maybe too high. While I didn’t love it quite as much as her earlier work, I didn’t dislike it either. It’s a different kind of story than what fans might be used to, and that shift took a bit of adjusting on my part.

This book leans more into mystery and plot than the deep, character-driven stories the author typically writes. It’s slower-paced, especially in the beginning, but the tension builds steadily and pays off if you stick with it. The romantic element is definitely a slow burn, and if you enjoy the “opposites attract” dynamic, you’ll find that here — though it unfolds gradually and subtly.

Overall, it’s a solid read, just not what I expected. If you're looking for something a little more suspenseful from a familiar voice, this is worth picking up — just go in with an open mind.
