“reading the captivating world-building details and the political stances throughout the story”
I don't want to say it, but I was a bit let down. I didn't despise the story. It had a lot of potential to be amazing; unfortunately, the slow pacing throughout the story made me a tad bit bored.
I enjoyed reading the captivating world-building details and the political stances throughout the story. The novel centers around Sofia, who recently became a free woman after serving a wealthy family on a colonized island. However, Sofia continues to struggle with her new status as a free woman while she starts her search for her missing twin brother. I understand Sofia's constant struggles with being a free woman because Sofia still has the mindset of serving someone for so many years. It's going to take a while to adjust, especially when Sofia's first act of freedom is searching for her missing twin brother.
While I was intrigued with Sofia's struggles as a free woman, I was also captivated by the world-building. Sofia starts her search for her missing brother on the island of el Carnaval de Bestias. It's a very captivating yet secretive island that the wealthy people travel to. And Sofia is more than determined to find her brother, who went years ago.
With all of these details, you would think that I enjoyed this story so much. Unfortunately, it was the pacing of the story that threw me off. I could not get over the slow pacing. It literally took forever to reach the plot or the main point of the story.
